Teresa Thome

Deputy Chief Inspector of the Eastern Field Operations in the U. S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS)


Teresa “Terry” Thome is currently the Deputy Chief Inspector of the Eastern Field Operations in the U. S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). Her responsibilities include oversight of over 1,200 employees in one of the oldest federal law enforcement agencies. Ms. Thome’s personnel enforce over 200 federal laws covering investigations of crimes that adversely affect or entail criminal misuse of the U.S. Mail or postal system. She also serves on her agency’s Executive Committee.

Ms. Thome was first assigned as Postal Inspector to the Los Angeles Division where she specialized in mail fraud investigations. She worked a wide scope of frauds including telemarketing, insurance, franchise, and work-at-home schemes. Ms. Thome participated on numerous inter-agency task forces and assisted with prevention efforts including the WISE Senior Fraud Prevention Call Center in Santa Monica, CA. She also worked narcotics, security, and financial investigations and served as the division’s Public Information Officer. Ms.Thome has received several awards and honors including the U.S. Trustee’s “Director’s Award” for Public Service.

Ms.Thome has held positions of increasing responsibility for the past 20 years . She was promoted to Mail Fraud Team Leader before serving as the Assistant Inspector in Charge of the New York Division and Inspector in Charge of the Philadelphia Division.

While serving in Philadelphia, Ms.Thome was an active member of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and the Police Chiefs Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania. She had executive oversight of the newly implemented Southeastern PA Identity Crimes Task Force (SEPIC) which helped combat identity crimes and formalize law enforcement relationships in the area. Ms. Thome was also instrumental with the implementation of the National Identity Crimes Law Enforcement (NICLE) network, a joint initiative between USPIS and others to collect and exchange information on identity related crimes.

Ms.Thome has served on several executive boards including the Philadelphia-Camden High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Executive Board, the Philadelphia Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) Executive Board and the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (IFPA). She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International and American Board for Certification in Homeland Security (ABCHS).
